Compare your household spend
To use the Economiser, you need to complete the profiling questions and input your spending under four category headings.
These categories have been chosen because they account for almost a third of a typical household's spending and also because changes in your spending in these categories can result in immediate savings. The categories are:
- Groceries
- Energy
- TV and telecoms (other than mobile)
- Mobile phones
The Economiser will identify how your spending compares with the most relevant average for you. It will then give tips and advice on how you can cut your spending and become a smarter consumer.

Important note about using the Economiser
The Economiser is a consumer educational tool and is for general information purposes only. It is based on a nationwide survey and resulting statistical analysis conducted by Amárach Research. Read more about the Market Research for the Economiser.
The Economiser has been designed to provide comparable, relevant averages for as broad a range of consumers as possible. However, a proportion of households and individuals will deviate from these averages, sometimes significantly, due to their unique circumstances. These users can still find valuable generic information our ConsumerValue section.
If you share a (rented) house or apartment, you will need to have an overall idea of total expenditure on areas such as groceries or energy to get a proper comparison with similar households.
