Online shopping FAQs
Returning goods issues
Q25. How long should it take to get my money back once I return the goods?
If you have already paid for the product/service, the seller must refund your money within 30 days from the cancellation date. This is the maximum time limit set out in the Distance Selling Regulations.
Q26. What can I do if the web-trader does not refund my money and I have already sent back the goods?
It is advisable that you return the goods via a traceable method, e.g. registered post.
When returning goods, you should always contact the trader first to prevent any confusion and to ensure you are following their returns procedure. Taking these basic steps will help protect you in the case of any further disputes with the trader.
If you have not received a refund within a reasonable period, you should contact the trader. If the refund is not provided within 30 days of cancellation you could contact your credit card company - they may be able to intervene and possibly approach the seller and try to resolve the situation.
The Small Claims Court is also an option for settling disputes if the trader is located in Ireland and provided that a claim does not exceed €2,000.
