Package holidays: bonding
By law, all package providers in Ireland must have security in place so that if they go out of business, your money and booking are protected.
Operators who arrange travel originating within Ireland to destinations outside of Ireland must be licensed by the Commission for Aviation Regulation and enter into a bond.
If they go bust, the Commission administers the bond and assesses your claim for a refund, or arranges to get you home if stranded abroad.
If your holiday starts in Britain or Northern Ireland and is sold by an operator there through an Irish travel agent, check with the agent whether there is a bonding system in place in the event of the operator going bust.
